The Indian Head Penny or Indian Head Cent was designed by James Barton Longacre. It was produced by the United States Bureau of the Mint from 1859-1909. The obverse of the coin features a profile image of Liberty with a head dress. The obverse also features the words, "United States of America," around the rim and the date can be seen at the bottom. The reverse features the words, "One Cent," surrounded by an oak wreath with a shield centered at the top.
