Third Reich Emergency Issue 5 Reichspfennig Zinc Coin
The Third Reich 5 Pfennig Zinc coin was minted in Nazi Germany from 1940-1944. It was an emergency issue type coin replacing the Third Reich Aluminum-Bronze 5 Pfennig coin that was minted from 1936-1940 in order to conserve materials for the war effort. The obverse features an eagle holding a swastika in an enclosed wreath. The top of the obverse features the words, “Deutsches Reich.” At the bottom of the obverse the date of each coin can be seen. The reverse features the denomination which is centered. The top of the reverse features the word, “Reichspfennig,” and at the bottom the mint mark for each coin can be seen flanked by two oak leaves.
